In The Sheikh's Marriage Bed by Sarah Morgan

I’ve found that to be very difficult in HPs. This book hits all these notes and still manages to be an enjoyable read. There is dishonesty, unbelieving lies, an embezzling brother, a troubled child, a near attack/rape, etc. They don’t just encounter crazy natives BUT they encounter quicksand, poisonous snakes, etc (this is the adventure book). I always feel like I’m reading one of those old-school adventure novels where all sorts of crazy stuff happens until they successfully reach the end of whatever mission they’re on.

I really enjoyed the general romance, standard and all. Well there was a side conflict with Zak having lost his wife and being unable to open up to his new wife. It was disappointing for me this was the major conflict. Even then he wondered if she was dishonest and didn’t fully believe her until her brother came to rescue her. Naturally he didn’t believe her innocence until he had her in their marriage bed. There was a sheikh and an innocent school-teacher. The premise itself was pretty standard for an HP. She agrees but discovers her new husband is cold to her honesty. When their attraction reaches its peak, he demands marriage in exchange for wiping her brother’s debt clean. Sure Emily is in on the embezzlement, Zak holds her captive in his palace. When he demands the man meet with him, the man sends his innocent sister in his place. Prince Zakour had to bail out his people when a financial investor embezzled millions of their savings. In this case, I was happy they had an oasis. Usually there is some event that leads them into spending at least part of the book in the desert versus a luxurious desert palace. I love the primitive nature of the books and the exotic locale. I know I’m a few years behind the times since more of the HPs now feature dominating billionaire tycoons instead of desert sheikhs. But what will he do when he discovers that his beautiful bride-to-be is a virgin?
